"Tintwistle Independent Chapel. There was a Nonconformist Church on this site from
1688 to 1971. In those early days the Dissenters as they were called travelled from as
far away as Saddleworth to attend Sunday services. The Church continues to worship God
in the Reformed tradition and is now located some 50 yards away at the top of the hill.
